Mystery of the gnaraloo sea turtles

For the first time, scientists are satellite tracking loggerhead sea turtles. Their results will shed light on these fascinating creatures’ mysterious migration routes.

“As adults they'll make migrations of hundreds maybe even thousands of kilometres, so it's a real mystery trying to unravel that life cycle”, says conservationist Dr. Jordan Thompson. But they do know where the loggerheads lay their eggs – at Gnaraloo, a remote stretch of sand in western Australia. There, a dedicated team of scientists are attaching satellite trackers to nesting females and tracking them across the ocean, fuelling understanding and conservation efforts.
